Recently, I stumbled upon this jewel from the presidential past: "The truth is, politics and morality are inseparable. And as morality's foundation is religion, religion and politics are necessarily related." (Ronald Reagan). This statement is apt enough, especially in light of recent disavowals from political types who say faith has nothing to do with their political decisions.
As Reagan's statement begins to imply, morality and life itself (in private and public) are inseperable. All of God's domain is one of moral relevance. Wherever we are, wherever we go, there's no escaping creation. And whenever we find ourselves in that created order, we also find ourselves in the presence of God, a presence that by its very nature, implies morality. Insofar as one's religion relates to moral choices, religion can't be separated from anything we do, any more than the rules of chess can be separated from chess decisions.
"Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from you presence? If I ascend to heaven you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me..." (Psalm 139: 7-10).
