When the Terri Shiavo case hit mainstream news, the media seemed to redefine the issue as an invidiual's wishes vs. what her parents wanted. According to Terri's husband, Terri would've wanted to starve and dehydrate to death rather than live as a "vegetable." Her parents thought otherwise. In the end, the courts ruled in favor of the husband, Terri died, and the issue of life got swept away with the fading waves of media coverage.

The main issue, that of God's Lordship over life and death did not make it to the fore...neither did the issue of whether or not it should be permissable for anyone to will in advance or in the moment to die by starvation/dehydration. Unfortunately, THE ISSUE will have to be revisited, perhaps with similarly tragic consequences. Let's pray that this will not be the case.
